These photos are from Stockton missouri and the town of stockton was devastated by tornados in the last week, I think that only one building is left standing in the downtown area. As far as we can tell this tower was in the path of one of the tornados. Note how the compound fencing is all bent in the same direction and also how the green power transformer was almost peeled off the ground, conduit and all. What I also find amazing is the damage to the equipment building.
As a side note to how odd our business is sometimes, our company
specializes in stacking steel and lines and antennas and we were not even
approached to get the site back on line. But then again I guess thats my
fault for not even being in the phone book. We are out of missouri and do
90% of our work in iowa and illinois. And from what I hear the tower company
that will probably fix this mess is out of ohio. But then again we all have
developed relationships with companys we do work for and its not untill
times get slow that we start looking in our own back yard to see what might
be available, anyway things have picked up and we are very busy right now
and probably would not have been able to react as quick as needed.
Everyone be safe and make sure you check out the anchors etc to any towers
you might be climbing here in the midwest as Im sure there are other towers
that did not come down but did recieve high winds and extreme weather.
I know im getting long winded but also weather related we have an anti 2
block system on our winches and gin pole and the transmitter on top of the
rooster head was hit by lightning the other night during one of the storms
in iowa. It blew the box wide open and it even had wires hanging out. The
tower was grounded fortunately and the lines ended up testing out fine the next day when we stuffed them in the building. Well gotta go.
